چکیده
We report on an ASCA discovery of a new X-ray pulsar, AX J0049−732, in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). The pulse shape is sinusoidal with a barycentric period of 9.1320 ± 0.0004 s. The X-ray spectrum was fitted by an absorbed power-law model with a photon index of 0.6 −0.7 and a column density of 1.3 −1.3 × 10 22 cm. An unabsorbed flux at 0.7–10.0 keV was estimated to be 8× 10 erg cm s corresponding to an X-ray luminosity of 4× 10 erg s at an SMC distance of 62 kpc.

A multi-frequency identification study of the SMC X-ray binary AX J0049-732
We present a high-resolution multi-frequency identification study of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) region around the newly discovered X-ray pulsar AX J0049-732. ROSAT PSPC images show three X-ray sources near the ASCA source position. We combine X-ray, radio-continuum and optical data to identify these sources. RX J0049.2-7311 and RX J0049.5-7310 did not show long-term time variability nor p...
متن کاملDiscovery of an X - Ray Pulsar in the SMC : AX J 0058 − 7203
We report on the discovery and analysis of an X-ray pulsar, AX J0058−7203, in the Small Magellanic Cloud. This pulsar exhibits coherent pulsations at P = 280.3 s with a double-peak structure. The X-ray spectrum is well fitted with a simple power-law model of photon index Γ ∼ 0.7. No significant change of the pulsation period over the observation was found. A comparison with ROSAT observations i...
متن کاملXMM-Newton observations of the Small Magellanic Cloud: XMMU J004814.1-731003, a 25.55 s Be/X-ray binary pulsar
Aims. To investigate candidates for Be/X-ray binaries in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), we observed a region around the emission nebula N19 with XMM-Newton in October 2006. Methods. We analysed the EPIC data of the detected point sources to derive their spectral and temporal characteristics. Results. We detected X-ray pulsations with a period of 25.550(2) s from the second-brightest source i...
متن کاملThe discovery of 96 s pulsations from the variable X-ray source 1SAX J0544.1-710 in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We report the discovery of a ∼ 96 s period X-ray pulsar in the direction of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The BeppoSAX X-ray spectrum is well fitted by an absorbed power-law model with photon index ∼ 0.5. The unabsorbed luminosity in the 2-10 keV energy range is ∼ 9×1035 erg s−1. The BeppoSAX position (40′′ uncertainty radius) of 1SAX J0544.1710 was found to be consistent with that of the A...
متن کاملDiscovery of a Possible Anomalous X-ray Pulsar in the Small Magellanic Cloud
We report the serendipitous detection of a previously unreported pulsar from the direction of the Small Magellanic Cloud using data from the CHANDRA X-Ray Observatory. Because of its luminosity (∼ 1.5× 10 ergs/s), its near lack of variability for more than 20 years, and its soft spectrum we propose that it is an anomalous X-ray pulsar (AXP). Data from the ROSAT PSPC in conjunction with the CHAN...
